There is not much vegetation to speak of in the Mountains and Basins region. It is mainly desert. Although, farmers grow cotton, fruits, vegetables, and cantaloupes here. |
Landforms
This region has 150 mountains in its mountain range. There are some plateaus and basins. The Rio Grande forms this region's southern border and New Mexico borders it to the north. There is also Big Bend National Park in this region. |
Weather
The Mountains and Basins region is the driest of the Texas regions. It gets only 8 inches of rain a year. The flat part of this region is for the most part, desert. In the mountains, though, the region gets plenty of rain and is nice and cool. Although, on the ground, it is only cool at night. The days are typically scorching hot. |

Pecos- It is the largest city in and the county seat of Reeves County, Texas.It is situated in the river valley on thenk of the Pecos River. El Paso- It is the county seat of El Paso County,Texas, United States, and lies in far West Texas. El Paso is the 19th most populous city in the United States. |
Attractions
Big Bend National Park- A big park in which one can enjoy hiking and the views of natural beauty. Marfa Lights- They have gained some fame as onlookers have ascribed them to paranormal phenomena such as ghosts, or UFO's. Guadalupe Peak- Guadalupe Peak is the highest natural point in Texas, with an elevation of 8,751 feet. It is located in Guadalupe Mountains National Park. |
Culture
The culture in the mountains and basins region of Texas can be very different than the other regions as other features of the region affects the culture. The language in the region that is spoken mainly is the English language with a slight accent. The culture affects the food and how they make it and this is one of the Mountains and Basins way of cooking, chuckwagon cooking, a special way of cooking. The people of this region wear loose and thin clothing. |
Economy and Industry
Ranching- provides many jobs raising sheep, goats, and cattle. Agriculture is another main industry. Farming- employs people that grow cotton, fruits, vegetables, and cantaloupes. Oil and Gas- It is commonly found in the Mountains and basins region and people can get jobs drilling for it. |
